Respiratory Flashcards
(11 cards)
Solutions to High Pressure Alarms
High pressure alarms are triggered by increased resistence so look for obstructions
1. Kinks
2. Condensation
3. Mucus plug (turn or ask pt to cough, if doesnt work suction)
Solutions to Low Pressure Alarms
Low pressure alarms are triggered by decreased resistance.
1. Main tubing disconnected
2. 02 sensor disconnected
(reconnect, unless tubing on floor. If it is bag pt and call RT)
What type of heart failure can be caused by pulmonary hypertension
R sided HF (ascites, jugular distention, edema)
What is COPD and S/S
Emphysema (damaged/destroyed alveoli) causing air to be trapped and overinflation of lungs.
S/S:
- dyspnea
- chronic cough with mucus (from inflammation)
- clubbing
What type of breathing eliminates CO2
Pursed lip breathing
Pulmonary Embolism
Blood clot, fat, air, amniotic fluid blocking an artery in the lung
Pulmonary Effusion
Build up of fluid in pleural space. Happens secondary to other conditions such as: HF, nephrotic syndrome, pneumonia, malignancy
Tension Pneumothorax (S/S)
Closed pneumothorax, air can get in but cant get out. Causes lung collapse
S/S:
- tracheal deviation, hypoxemia, unilateral chest wall expansion, HOTN, decreased CO, restless
Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome and Causes
Progressive lung failure seen post lung injury or massive multi organ disease, causing swelling and destruction of alveoli
causes:
- Acute pancreatitis
- infection
- pneumonia
- aspiration
- burns/ trauma
- submersion injury
Tx for ARDS
- O2
- fluid restriction
- Vent with Positive end expiratory pressure
- Prone position
- Enteral Nutrition
