What is the definition of arthritis?
Arthritis is joint inflammation with pain. It includes over 100 conditions affecting the joints.
What are some common types of arthritis?
Osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, ankylosing spondylitis, and psoriatic arthritis.
What is osteoarthritis?
Degeneration of the articular cartilage, commonly described as ‘wear and tear’.
What is rheumatoid arthritis?
An autoimmune disease affecting synovial joints.
What causes gout?
Deposition of uric acid crystals in joints.
What does ankylosing spondylitis primarily affect?
The spine, and it is an autoimmune condition.
What is psoriatic arthritis associated with?
Psoriasis, an autoimmune skin condition.
What is the origin of the word ‘arthritis’?
From Greek: ‘arthro’ meaning joint, and ‘-itis’ meaning inflammation.
