biological approach- the influence of genes Flashcards
(7 cards)
what are the 6 AO1 points you must know for the influence of genes?
- Behaviour is partly inherited
-Genotype and phenotype
-Twin studies
-Concordance rates - Heritability
-Gene-environment interaction
What does the biological approach say about genes and behaviour?
Behaviour is partly inherited — genes passed from parents influence traits and actions.
What are genotype and phenotype?
Genotype = genetic makeup.
Phenotype = how genes are expressed through behaviour and environment.
Why are twin studies important in genetics?
They compare MZ twins (100% genes) and DZ twins (50%) to measure genetic influence.
What are concordance rates?
They show how often both twins share a trait. Higher in MZ twins = stronger genetic link.
What does heritability mean?
It’s the extent to which traits (e.g. intelligence, schizophrenia) are due to genetics.
Do genes act alone?
