Social Learning Theory Overall Flashcards
(7 cards)
What are the 6 AO1 points you should know for SLT overall?
-learning through observation and imitation
-role of vicarious reinforcement
-mediations processes
-role of identification
-Banduras bobo doll study
-Bridge between behaviourism and cognitive approaches
How does Social Learning Theory say behaviour is learned?
Behaviour is learned through observing and imitating others, especially when their actions are rewarded.
What is vicarious reinforcement?
Learning that occurs by observing the consequences of someone else’s behaviour. If they are rewarded, the observer is more likely to imitate the behaviour.
What are the four mediational processes in SLT?
- Attention – noticing the behaviour
- Retention – remembering the behaviour
- Motor reproduction – ability to do it
- Motivation – wanting to perform it
What is identification in Social Learning Theory?
When an observer relates to a role model (e.g., same gender or admired) and is more likely to imitate their behaviour. This process is called modelling.
What did Bandura’s Bobo doll study show?
Children who saw an adult act aggressively toward a Bobo doll were more likely to imitate that aggression, especially if the adult was rewarded.
How is SLT a bridge between behaviourist and cognitive approaches?
SLT includes both learning through experience (like behaviourism) and internal mental processes (like cognition), such as attention and motivation.
