Step 1 > Brainstem Arterial Supply, Cranial Nerve Lesions > Flashcards

Flashcards in Brainstem Arterial Supply, Cranial Nerve Lesions Deck (16):
1

Where does the corticospinal tract decussate in brainstem

Caudal medulla (above the pyramids)

2

Where does the dorsal column-medial lemisicus decussate

medulla

3

What 4 structures does the posterior inferior cerebellar artery supply in the medulla

1. spinothalmic tract
2. inferior cerebellar peduncle
3. Nucleus ambiguus
4. Lateral spinothalmic tract

4

How can a stroke of the facial motor cortex be distiguished from Bell's palsy

-Stroke: facial motor cortex will spare upper face (eyebrows move)
-Bell's: will involve entire side of the face

5

Lesion in cortical motor face region

paralysis of contralateral side of lower face

6

lesion of facial nerve or nucleus

paralysis of ipsilateral side of entire face

7

lesion of vagus nerve or nuclei--> which way will uvula deviate

opposite the lesion

8

lesion of right corticolbulnar tract or soft palate portion of right motor cortex, which way will uvula deviate

to the right (points to lesion if upper)

9

damage to right hypoglossal nerve or nucleus

tongue deviates towards lesion (lick your wounds)

10

damage to right motor cortex involving tongue or the corticobulbar tract to it

point away from lesion--> to the left (contralateral muscles weakened)

11

6 diseases that may cause Bells Palsy (my lovely bella had An STD)

1. Lyme disease
2. Herpes zoster
3. AIDS
4. Sarcoidosis
5. Tumors
6. Diabetes

*kinda just have to memorize the first two

12

What three strctures in the medulla supplied by anterior spinal artery

1. Hypoglossal nucleus
2. Medial leminsicus
3. Medullary pyramids

13

2 structures in the Pons supplied by paramedian branches

1. medial leminiscus
2. corticospinal tract

14

CN nucleus in rostral pons

CN V, trigeminal

15

two CN nuclei in lateral caudal Pons

1. Facial (CN VII)
2. Vestibular (CN VIII)

16

CN found in medial, dorsal, caudal pons

Abducens (CN VI)
