Retinal detachment
Presentation: Optic Neuritis
Abnormal PLR: mydriasis
Often bilateral
Presents just like blindness due to diffuse retinal disease - may be concurrent with retinal disease or retina may be normal
Optic neuritis
Optic neuritis
Blind OU/Normal
Fundus/Abnormal PLR (Mydriasis) dDxs
SARDS
Optic chiasm or optic tract disease (ERG can localize)
Clinical Signs: SARDS
Sudden onset of blindness (day-weeks)
Fundus normal early in disease process
Cushing’s clinical signs
SARDS
How is SARDS diagnosed?
ERG = no retinal function = flat line
What does an ERG look like with SARDS?
ERG would be normal with optic neuritis as the abnormality is the optic nerve
Pathogenesis: Hypertensive Retinopathy
Feline hypertensive retinopathy
Feline hypertensive retinopathy
Presentation: Hypertensive Retinopathy
Bilateral mydriasis and blindness
Concurrent renal disease
Up to 50% will regain vision if treated
Normal fundus
dDX: SARDS
Dx: ERG
Abnormal fundus
dDx: PRA
Dx: genetic testing
