A yellowish-brown pigmentation over the bridge of the nose and cheeks during pregnancy and is some women who are taking oral contraceptives; also known as the mask of pregnancy
chloasma gravidarum
A secretion from the breast before the onset of true lactation; it has a high protein content, provides some immune properties, and cleanses the newborn’s tract of mucus and meconium
colostrum

The actual time, crom conception to birth, that the fetus remains in the uterus
gestational age
A probably sign of pregnancy occurring during the second month of pregnancy that involves a softening of the cervix
Goodell’s sign
The number of times a woman has been pregnant; a pregnant woman
gravida
A probable sign of pregnancy that involves softening of the lower uterine segment found upon palpation in the second or third month of pregnancy
Hegar’s sign
The time of onset of true labor, followed by the delivery of the neonate and finally the placenta
intrapartum
The process of producing and supplying breast milk
