A&P Lab Exercise 11 A Flashcards
What is the origin of a muscle?
The relatively fixed end of the muscle
What is the insertion of the muscle?
The end of the muscle attached to the bone that moves
What happens to the connected bones when a muscle contracts?
The muscle pulls one bone towards the other bone
What is the prime mover? What is another name for it?
The agonist is the muscle producing the major movement
What is the synergist?
The muscle that works with the prime mover to aid its action
What is the antagonist?
The muscle that moves the same bone in an opposite direction
What is flexon?
Bending at a joint
What is extension?
Extending or straightening a limb after flexon
What is abduction?
Moving a bone away from the midline of the body
What is adduction?
Moving a bone towards the midline of the body
What is elevation?
Moving upwards
What is depression?
