Drill #4 Notes

A
  • Make sure to wrap the hydrant so the tail is always on top.
  • Make sure to have plenty of tail.
  • Check FDC - Is anything in it?
  • Is the FDC clappered? If it is we can open water with just one connection.
  • Always connect the let FDC first, most firefighters are right handed, this makes it easier for the second person who is connecting the FDC.
  • When pulling the pony section, pull all of it at one time, connect to the engine and then connect to the hydrant. (Saves Time)
  • Flagging - Every 100’ with the Skids we Flag by leaving out a hose piece that is longer, coupling can only be as deep as 18 inches.
  • ALWAYS MOVE WITH SPEED AND PURPOSE
  • In one movement with pony hose, grab both couplings and the hydrant bag, connect to inlet, make sure to keep pump panel clear of 5” supply hose (Always run larger hose under smaller hose)
  • You want to keep the 5”supply hose away from the pump panel because when it is charged it can hurt somebody, ruin the evolution, or just get tangled.
  • Skids should be connected in the hose bed so we can cross them and connect and we then have 400’ of 2 1/2” hose.
  • The hose bed with the skid and bundle are not connected the other two hose beds with just skids are.
  • Male goes on bottom
  • Make sure to flag where couplings are.
  • Couplings should not be any deeper than 18”.
