3 Person Crew
Officer
- Give command of 5”supply and ground monitor.
- Direct positioning of apparatus.
- Assist driver with supply connection (optional)
- Advance monitor and base to desired location.
- Advance 2 1/2” to monitor (optional).
Drill # 5
Monitor at ground level (2, 150’ lengths of 2 1/2”) with Hydrant supply (150’ of 5”).
3 Person Crew
Driver
- Stop apparatus at hydrant.
- Lay line and position apparatus as directed.
- Perform in-cab operations, chock wheels.
- Make 5” supply connections.
- Hand down monitor.
- Make 2 1/2” connections.
- Supply water to the monitor.
3 Position
3 Person Crew
- Wrap hydrant, signal when ready.
- Make hydrant connection.
- Open hydrant on command.
- Follow supply line, remove large kinks.
- Advance 2 1/2” to monitor.
- Advance second 2 1/2” to monitor (optional)
4 Person Crew

- Go to rear of apparatus, signal driver to lay line.
- Assist driver with 5” supply connection (Optional)
- Advance 2 1/2” to monitor.
Drill Notes
- Safety Pin, goes up without pulling it but needs to be pulled to put ground monitor down. (Safety Purposes)
- When just starting to flow water from the ground monitor you can put the nozzle up straight into the air, will reduce the pushback pressure.
- When putting the ground monitor back into the compartment it is best to put it in handle first.
- Don’t forget to secure the monitor by pounding it into the ground before getting water.
- Use chain and two straps to secure 5” Supply to the Ground Monitor.
What is the optimal angle for the ground monitor?
32 Degrees
What is the PSI for the ground monitor if we are using the combination nozzle?
100 PSI
What is the PSI if we are using the Smooth Bore Nozzle?
80PSI
What is the set up for the ground monitor?
- Need at least 150’ of 5’ Supply Hose
- 100 Ft from pumper to the ground monitor, big wide square around the monitor. (Needs to be at least ten feet away from monitor in all directions except for right in front of the monitor. )
What engines use a 2x 2 1/2” Supply with the Ground Monitor?
Engine 91 and Engine 92
