Tips for Driving the Engine
- Know Routes, (Fewest Corners and Schools plus the Most Lanes)
- Drive engine like you drive your car (5 over)
- Try to stay on arterials as long as possible
- Respect the intersections (Avoid congestion)
- Respect Corners
- Commands for intersections (Clear, Stop)
- Situational Awareness: Say exactly what is happening with all drivers.
- Wheel across the lane.
- Always use lights but don’t have to use sirens.
OSHA and WAC
Washington State uses the WAC, these laws must be OSHA compliant.

Chainsaw Cutting Ability
- Make sure all teeth are sharp.
- Mark says up to 15 teeth broken ok if all others are sharp.
- Make sure engine housing is clean.
- Sharp edge should catch on your hand as you run your hand on the blade when it is off.

Drivers Set Up When Parking
- Park appropriately to protect, use cones, flares, wheel chocks.
- Check the cars for each other and yourself
- Cones don’t stop people, people will move for flares.
Car Accident Responsibilities
Tailboard - Triage Patients and Patient Care
Driver - Cones and Scene Safety, Absorbent, Cutting Battery Wires potentially.
Make sure that the car is secure, car in park, keys on the dash
Fire Exposure Report
- Fill one of these out every time you are involved in a fire.

Decon after a Fire
- Spray off with a hose
- Wash all Gear (Turnouts, Mask, Helmet)
- Take Shower
