Entanglement
It’s like a animal trap, the harder you fight against it the more stuck you get.
Move Slowly through it.
Once you feel like you are starting to get stuck, slowly reverse your direction.
Use arm above with hand on ground to catch wires with your elbow and keep them off your body and use move through an entanglement. Use other arm to sweep entanglement away from your body.
Rope Technique
Use good rope skills.
Count your knots, each knot equals 20 ft.

Steps
- First try just loosening straps but keeping pack on.
- Next try putting pack on just one shoulder, (left shoulder with air)
- Last technique to use is to take the pack all the way off (last resort)
Tool Use
Make sure to always sound the floor with your tool to ensure that you have a solid surface.
Where can you put your tool as you go through an entanglement area?
Put tool through your belt and in between your legs.
Situations for calling a Mayday?
Lost, Trapped, Disoriented, Unaccounted Firefighter/Firefighters, Low Air.
How do you call a Mayday?
- Mayday, Mayday, Mayday
- Give following info: Name, Crew, Situation
- Wait for response from IC, if none Repeat
- If still no response, change frequencies and repeat
- Give CARA (Conditions, Actions, Resources, Air Supply) report to IC Or CAN Report (Conditions, Actions, Needs)
- After Radio Report Help Yourself
- Activate PASS
- Calm Yourself, Slow Breathing
- Look for an Exit
- Lay Down, Point Light Up, Make Noise
- Monitor Radio, Move to Wall
