Lab 2 Flashcards
What vertebrae have bifid spinous processes?
C2 - C7
Where is the groove for the vertebral artery?
Posterior aspect of C1
Where is the articular facet for the dens?
The anterior aspect of C1
What is the other term for the dens?
Odontoid process
Where is the dens?
Anterior aspect of C2
What vertebrae have median and lateral joints?
Medial and lateral atlantoaxial joints
What kind of joints are intervertebral joints?
Symphyses
Which vertebrae have uncinate processes?
C3 - C7
Where are uncovertebral joints?
Between uncinate process below and the uncus above
What is important about the occipital condyles?
Where the atlas articulates
Where is the basilar part of the occipital bone?
Anterior to foramen magnum
What attaches the the nuchal lines?
Semispinalis attachment makes a line by pulling on the periosteum - superior and inferior lines = superior and inferior limits of semispinalis
What is the splenius deep to?
Deep to trapezius
Splenis capitis origin/insertion
O: nuchal ligament, C3 - C7 spinous processes
I: Mastoid process
Spenius cervicis origin/insertion
O: T3 - T6 spinous processes
I: C1 - C2 transverse processes
What is the relationship of spenius capitis and cervicis?
Capitis is more superficial, cervicis is more lateral and wraps around capitis
Semispinalis capitis origin/insertion
O: C4 - T7 transverse processes
I: Between nuchal lines
Semispinalis cervicis origin/insertion
O: T1 - T6 transverse processes
I: C2 - C5 spinous processes
What is the relationship of semispinalis capitis and cervicis?
Capitis is under the splenius, superficial to cervicis
Innervation of splenius
Posterior rami of spinal nerves C1 - C6
Innervation of semispinalis capitis
Greater occipital nerve (posterior rami of C2)
Innervation of semispinalis cervicis
Posterior rami of spinal nerves
Action of splenius
Bilaterally extends spine and head
Unilaterally flexes and rotates head ispilaterally
Action of semispinalis
Bilaterally extend spine and head
Unilaterally lateral flexion of head and spine
Rectus capitis posterior major origin/insertion
O: C2 spinous process
I: Nuchal line
Rectus capitis posterior minor origin/insertion
O: C1 posterior tubercle
I: Nuchal line
Obliquus capitis superior origin/insertion
O: C1 transverse process
I: Nuchal line
Obliquus capitis inferior origin/insertion
O: C2 spinous process
I: C1 transverse process
What are the muscles of the sub occipital triangle?
Rectus capitis posterior major
Obliquus capitis inferior
Obliquus capitis superior
What is the innervation of the sub occipital triangle and the rectus capitis posterior minor?
Suboccipital nerve (posterior rami of C1)
What is the action of the sub occipital triangle and the rectus capitis posterior minor?
Bilaterally extends head
Unilaterally rotates head to same side
What is the greater occipital nerve also called?
Posterior rami of C2
What is the sub occipital nerve also called?
Posterior rami of C1
What is the transverse ligament of the atlas a part of?
Cruciform or cruciate ligament - has longitudinal and transverse bands
