Contraindications

A

Vomiting or diarrhea can cause GI suctions which will make your body lose acid and chloride and then your body becomes too basic (metabolic alkalosis)
Don’t give to people with cardiac disease, HTN, or renal impairment

Drug interactions

A

Ketoconazole= decreased absorption
Dextroamphetamine, ephedrine, pseudoephedrine, and quinidine= decreased elimination
lithium, salicylates, and tetracyclines= increased elimination

Herbal/food interactions

A

do not use with milk or calcium supplements because it will cause milk-alkali syndrome (serious hypercalcemia and possible kidney failure)
