What are the universal contraindications of medicines?

a. Life threatening allergy - Absolute contraindication b. Significant (but not life threatening) allergy- Relative contraindicationc. Pregnancy, particularly first trimester, or breastfeeding - Relative contraindication


If possible, what is best practice to do for a drug check before drawing up?

Get a second person to check the ampoule and name it.


What do you do if medications has an excess dose for a patient and you have drawn up too much?

Discard the excess before administering to patient.


When naming syringes with medications in them - what is important to include.

The name of the medication and the concentration if the drug has been diluted.
