What is the endocrine system made up of?

Glands

What do glands produce?

Hormones

What is the function of hormones?

To regulate the body's systems.

What is the function of the pancreas?

Regulate blood glucose levels
Secretes digestive enzymes

What do alpha cells within the pancreas produce?

Glucagon

What do beta cells within the pancreas produce?

Insulin

What is the purpose of insulin and explain the process with regards to how it works in the body?

Purpose of insulin is to allow cells to take up glucose also converts glucose to glycogen for storage.

Insulin acts as a key, opens the door to allow glucose to move from the blood into the cell.
Lack of insulin means glucose stays and increases in blood and vice versa.

- adrenal glands (2)
- islets of Langerhans in the pancreas
