What is the cause of target cells:

A

Decreased enzymatic activity increases the cholesterol to phospholipid ratio, producing an absolute increase in surface area of the red blood cell membranes. In macrocytosis the etiology is commonly bone marrow dysplasia secondary to alcohol abuse and chronic alcoholism.
