Which ulcers occur in the gaiter area?
Venous ulcers, which are HSHALLOW and LARGE with sloping edges
What are he features of arterial ulcers?
Occur distally (e.g. at the heel or toe tips)
Are small and deep
Have a ‘punched out’ margin
Do not bleed or ooze
Associated with other features of peripheral arterial disease (weak distal pulses, skin/hair atrophy)
What does ABPI more than 1.4 indicates?
Abnormal thickening due to calcification
What does ABPI 0.91-0.99 indicate?
PAD may be present. So be guided by clinical suspicion
What ABPI value indicates peripheral arterial disease?
Less than 0.9
What ABPI value indicates severe PAD disease?
Less than 0.5
What causes well-defined scaly skin that is itchy?
Plaque psoriasis
What is pyoderma gangrenosum?
Rapidly enlarging painful ulcer associated wih autoimmune disease
How do venous ulcers appear?
Inverted champagne bottle appearance, with reddish brown discolouration suggesting lipodermatoscleriss
What is a marjolin ulcer?
Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma that develops on previous burn wound or scar sites
What is a decubitus ulcer?
Pressure sore from prolonged immobility, typically in back or gluteal region

Venous ulcers
What are the features of skin in arterial ulcers?
Thin skin
Hair loss
Shiny and pale skin
What does a white atrophic scar around ulcer indicate?
Venous ulcer
-> stellate scar means it is in the site of a previously healed venous ulcer. Venous ulcers will have a granulating base.
