غِشَاوَة
Meaning: A covering, a veil, a barrier.
Word Type: Noun (Feminine).
Context: This word appears in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:7), where Allah describes the disbelievers as having a غِشَاوَةٌ (covering or veil) over their hearts and ears, preventing them from understanding the truth and receiving guidance.
Verse:
خَتَمَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰٓ قُلُوبِهِمْ وَعَلَىٰٓ سَمْعِهِمْ وَعلَى أَبۡصَٰرِهِمْ غِشَاوَةٌ ۖ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ عَظيم

يُخَادِعُون
Meaning: They deceive, they attempt to trick.
Word Type: Verb

Verse:

(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:13-14)
يَمُدُّهم
Meaning: He prolongs for them, He extends for them, He grants them respite.

يَخْطَفُ
Meaning: Snatches away, seizes suddenly, takes by force.

Meaning: A spread, a resting place, a carpet-like surface.

Verse:

بِنَاءً
Meaning: A structure, a canopy, a covering.

مُتَشَابِهًا
Meaning: Similar, resembling, alike.
Word Type: Adjective
Context: This word appears in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:25), where Allah describes the fruits of Paradise as مُتَشَٰبِهًۭا (similar or resembling each other). This suggests that although they may look alike, their tastes and delights will be uniquely different and far superior to anything in the worldly life.
Verse:
وَبَشِّرِ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ أَنَّ لَهُمْ جَنَّٰتٍۢ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَٰرُ ۖ كُلَّمَا رُزِقُوا۟ مِنْهَا مِن ثَمَرَةٍۢ رِّزْقًۭا قَالُوا۟ هَٰذَا ٱلَّذِى رُزِقْنَا مِن قَبْلُ وَأُتُوا۟ بِهِۦ مُتَشَٰبِهًۭا ۖ وَلَهُمْ فِيهَآ أَزْوَٰجٌۭ مُّطَهَّرَةٌۭ وَهُمْ فِيهَا خَٰلِدُونَ
(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:25)
بَعُوضَة
Meaning: A mosquito.
Word Type: Noun (Feminine).
Context: This word appears in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:26), where Allah uses بَعُوضَةً (a mosquito) as an example to demonstrate that He is not ashamed to present even the smallest creatures as signs of His power. This verse highlights how the believers recognize such examples as guidance, while disbelievers dismiss them as meaningless.
Verse:
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَسْتَحْىِ أَن يَضْرِبَ مَثَلًۭا مَّا بَعُوضَةً فَمَا فَوْقَهَا ۚ فَأَمَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ فَيَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّهُ ٱلْحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّهِمْ ۖ وَأَمَّا ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ فَيَقُولُونَ مَاذَآ أَرَادَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَٰذَا مَثَلًۭا ۘ يُضِلُّ بِهِۦ كَثِيرًۭا وَيَهْدِى بِهِۦ كَثِيرًۭا ۚ وَمَا يُضِلُّ بِهِۦ إِلَّا ٱلْفَٰسِقِينَ
(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:26)
تُبْدُون
Meaning: You reveal, you make apparent, you disclose.
Word Type: Verb
Context: This word appears in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:33), where Allah reminds Adam (AS) of the knowledge He granted him. The word تُبْدُونَ (you reveal or disclose) refers to what the angels acknowledged about Adam’s knowledge, as opposed to what they did not know. This highlights Allah’s wisdom in choosing Adam as His vicegerent on earth.
Verse:
قَالَ يَٰٓـَٔادَمُ أَنبِئْهُم بِأَسْمَآئِهِمْ ۖ فَلَمَّآ أَنبَأَهُم بِأَسْمَآئِهِمْ قَالَ أَلَمْ أَقُل لَّكُمْ إِنِّىٓ أَعْلَمُ غَيْبَ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَأَعْلَمُ مَا تُبْدُونَ وَمَا كُنتُمْ تَكْتُمُونَ
(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:33)
رَغَدًا
Meaning: Abundantly, plentifully, freely.
Word Type: Adverb
Context: This word appears in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:35), where Allah grants Adam and his wife the freedom to eat رَغَدًا (abundantly or freely) from the fruits of Paradise, except for one forbidden tree. This highlights the vast blessings given to them before they were tested with a restriction.
Verse:
وَقُلْنَا يَٰٓـَٔادَمُ ٱسْكُنْ أَنتَ وَزَوْجُكَ ٱلْجَنَّةَ وَكُلَا مِنْهَا رَغَدًا حَيْثُ شِئْتُمَا وَلَا تَقْرَبَا هَٰذِهِ ٱلشَّجَرَةَ فَتَكُونَا مِنَ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ
(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:35)
فَأَزَلَّهُما
Meaning: He caused them to slip, he led them astray.

(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:36)
اهْبِطُوا
Meaning: Descend, go down, leave.
Word Type: Verb
Context: This word appears in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:36), where Allah commands Adam, his wife, and Shaytan to ٱهْبِطُوا (descend or go down) from Paradise to the earth after they were deceived into eating from the forbidden tree. (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:36)
مُسْتَقَرّ
Meaning: Dwelling place, settlement, abode.
Word Type: Noun (Masculine).
Context: This word appears in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:36), where Allah tells Adam, his wife, and Shaytan that the earth will be their مُسْتَقَرٌّ (dwelling place or settlement) for a temporary period. This signifies that their life on earth is not permanent but a stage before the afterlife.
Verse:
فَأَزَلَّهُمَا ٱلشَّيْطَٰنُ عَنْهَا فَأَخْرَجَهُمَا مِمَّا كَانَا فِيهِ ۖ وَقُلْنَا ٱهْبِطُوا۟ بَعْضُكُمْ لِبَعْضٍ عَدُوٌّۭ ۖ وَلَكُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ مُسْتَقَرٌّ وَمَتَٰعٌ إِلَىٰ حِينٍۢ
(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:36)
فَتَلَقَّى
Meaning: He received, he accepted, he took in.

Context: This word appears in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:37), where Allah describes how Adam فَتَلَقَّىٰ (received or accepted) words of repentance from his Lord after his mistake. This highlights Allah’s mercy and His willingness to forgive those who sincerely repent.
Verse:
فَتَلَقَّىٰٓ ءَادَمُ مِن رَّبِّهِۦ كَلِمَٰتٍۢ فَتَابَ عَلَيْهِ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلتَّوَّابُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ
(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:37)
يَسُومُونَكم
Meaning: They afflict you, they subject you to, they impose upon you.

Context: This word appears in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:49), where Allah reminds the Children of Israel of His favor upon them when He saved them from Pharaoh, who يَسُومُونَكُمْ (afflicted or subjected them) to a severe torment. This highlights the oppression they endured under Pharaoh’s rule and Allah’s mercy in delivering them.
Verse:
وَإِذْ نَجَّيْنَٰكُم مِّنْ ءَالِ فِرْعَوْنَ يَسُومُونَكُمْ سُوٓءَ ٱلْعَذَابِ يُذَبِّحُونَ أَبْنَآءَكُمْ وَيَسْتَحْيُونَ نِسَآءَكُمْ ۚ وَفِى ذَٰلِكُم بَلَآءٌۭ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ عَظِيمٌۭ
(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:49)
واعَدْنَا
Meaning: We appointed, We made an agreement, We set a promise.

Context: This word appears in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:51), where Allah refers to the time when He وَٰعَدْنَا (appointed or made an agreement) with Musa (Moses) for forty nights. During this period, the Israelites fell into misguidance by worshiping the golden calf, highlighting their impatience and lack of steadfastness.
Verse:
وَإِذْ وَٰعَدْنَا مُوسَىٰٓ أَرْبَعِينَ لَيْلَةًۭ ثُمَّ ٱتَّخَذْتُمُ ٱلْعِجْلَ مِنۢ بَعْدِهِۦ وَأَنتُمْ ظَٰلِمُونَ
(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:51)
جَهْرَة
Meaning: Openly, visibly, directly.
Word Type: Noun (Feminine).
Context: This word appears in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:55), where the Children of Israel demanded to see Allah جَهْرَةً (openly or visibly) before they would believe. As a result of their arrogance, they were struck by a divine punishment, highlighting the consequences of their defiance.
Verse:
وَإِذْ قُلْتُمْ يَٰمُوسَىٰ لَن نُّؤْمِنَ لَكَ حَتَّىٰ نَرَى ٱللَّهَ جَهْرَةً فَأَخَذَتْكُمُ ٱلصَّٰعِقَةُ وَأَنتُمْ تَنظُرُونَ
(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:55)
ظَلَّلْنَا
Meaning: We shaded, we covered with shade.
Word Type: Verb
Context: This word appears in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:57), where Allah reminds the Children of Israel of His favor when He ظَلَّلْنَا (shaded) them with clouds in the desert. This was a blessing during their wandering after leaving Egypt, providing them with comfort and protection.
Verse:
وَظَلَّلْنَا عَلَيْكُمُ ٱلْغَمَامَ وَأَنزَلْنَا عَلَيْكُمُ ٱلْمَنَّ وَٱلسَّلْوَىٰ ۖ كُلُوا۟ مِن طَيِّبَٰتِ مَا رَزَقْنَٰكُمْ ۚ وَمَا ظَلَمُونَا وَلَٰكِن كَانُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ يَظْلِمُونَ
(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:57)
