Why do you think Nellie Bly might have decided to become a newspaper reporter? pg. 110-111
She might have wanted to travel.
How do you know Nellie Bly was a determined person? pg. 110-111
- After six months of failure, she took a big risk by reporting on the unfair practices affecting the lives of ordinary woman. Her stories became a sensation and she became a newspaper star.
- She decided she could break the fictional record of Phileas Fogg who went around the world in 80 days. Her editor was doubtful but she decided she could do it and if “World” wouldn’t send her she would find another newspaper that would.
- She wouldn’t give up on traveling around the world..

They believed in her - were rooting for her. Everyone knew her story. All along the way Nellie was greeted by crowds of well-wishes, bands, and fireworks. Telegrams, flowers, fruit, and candy poured in.
