After awhile, Potiphar’s wife fell in love with Joseph. But Joseph refused to commit sin with her, for he had great respect for Potiphar and for God’s laws. Angry, she screamed and pretended that Joseph had tried to attack her. So Potiphar became furious and threw him in jail.

2. He saw 7 ears of grain, fat and healthy, growing on one stalk. Behind them were 7 ears of grain, shrivel, then and blasted by the east wind. These ears swallowed up the healthy ears of grain.

That God had revealed to the pharaoh what he was going to do. In Egypt, there would be 7 years of good crops followed by 7 years of famine.

Describe how Joseph and his brothers met again.

As Joseph predicted, famine was experienced everywhere. So Israel's family needed food so he sent 10 of his sons to Egypt to buy food. The brothers came and knelt before Joseph. He recognized them but they did not know him.

How did Joseph react to seeing his brothers? (What did he do?)

Joseph accused them of being spies. They explained that they were not and that they had left their father and brother at home. He pretended he did not believe them. He kept one brother, Simeon, as a prisoner until they returned with their youngest brother as proof of their story.

How did their father, Israel, react when his sons returned?

He was very upset - "Must you make me childless? Joseph is gone, Simeon is gone, and now you would take away Benjamin. My son is not going down with you."

After awhile they needed food and grain, so Israel agreed to send Benjamin. What did Joseph do when his brothers returned?

Joseph dined with them - giving Benjamin the largest portion. But he had one more test for his brothers, he filled their bags with grain, the money they had paid for the grain and his own silver cup. After they left, Joseph sent his guards after them in search of the cup. They were ordered to return to Joseph.

What was the punishment for the theft of the cup? And how did the brothers react?

That Benjamin stay with him as a slave. The brothers begged Joseph not to do this. They said that their father surely would die if Benjamin did not return.

He called them close and told them who he was. Don't feel bad about selling me into slavery. God sent he here in order to save your lives. Return quickly to my father and tell him to come to Egypt, settle in region of Geshen, and I will provide for you.

He promised he would become as powerful as a lion and rule over others. The Messiah, the one promised to deliver all people from sin, would come from Judah's family.
