What is Amitriptyline also known as?
Elavil
Amitriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant.
What neurotransmitters does Amitriptyline increase in the CNS?
Norepinephrine (NE) & serotonin
This is achieved by blocking their reuptake.
What is the mechanism of action of Amitriptyline?
Blocking reuptake of NE & serotonin
It also has anticholinergic properties.
What is Imipramine also known as?
Tofranil
Imipramine is another tricyclic antidepressant.
What neurotransmitters does Imipramine increase in the CNS?
Norepinephrine (NE) & serotonin
Similar to Amitriptyline, it increases these by blocking reuptake.
What is the mechanism of action of Imipramine?
Blocking reuptake of NE & serotonin
Imipramine also has anticholinergic effects.
