वैतालिक m. vaitālikaḥ वैतालिकः [विविधस्तालस्तेन व्यवहरति ठक्] 1 A bard, minstrel. -2 A magician, conjurer; especially, one who is a votary of Vetāla q. v. -3 The servant of a Vetāla. (“VAMPIRE”) -कम् Knowledge of one of the 64 arts. -Comp. -व्रतम् the duty of a bard.

(com. ‘अन्यत्र रम्या इत्येवं पताकाः प्राप्तवतीः । प्रसिद्धिं गता इत्यर्थः ।’). -7 A particular high number; तत्र शङ्कुपताके द्वे युगान्तं कल्पमेव च Mb.13.17.63. -Comp. -अंशुकम् a flag. -दण्डः a flag-staff. -स्थानकम् (in dramaturgy) intimation of an episodical incident, when instead of the thing thought of or expected, another of the same character is brought in by some unexpected circumstance (यत्रार्थे चिन्तिते$न्यस्मिंस्तल्लिङ्गो$न्यः प्रयुज्यते । आगन्तुकेन भावेन पताकास्थानकं तु तत् ॥ S. Parameṣṭhin (परमेष्ठिन्) refers to the “great lord” and is used to describe Śiva, in the Śivapurāṇa 2.2.15. Accordingly as Brahmā narrated to Nārada:—“[…] On arrival there, after paying respects to the lord [Śiva] with great excitement we lauded Him with various hymns with palms joined in reverence. The Devas said: […] Obeisance to Thee, the ocean of the knowledge of Vedic texts. Obeisance to Thee, the great lord (Parameṣṭhin) and the ultimate goal of devotees and possessed of three attributes”.
