Function: divides the nasal cavity into right and left sides
Pharynx

Part of the digestive tract between the pharynx and the stomach
Function: transports food from the mouth to the digestive system
Hard palate
forms the floor of the nasal cavity (roof of mouth)
Function: separating the nasal cavity from the oral cavity
Respiratory mucosa

Passageways of respiratory system
Function: traps pathogens before they can enter the body; warms and moistens the air as it enters the body
Epiglottis
made of elastic cartilage (other structures are hyaline cartilage)
Mouth of the windpipe
Function: serves as a valve over the opening of the larynx during swallowing to prevent materials from entering the larynx
Conchae

Function: increase the surface area of the nasal cavity
Tonsils

Lingual, pharyngeal, and palatine
Function: defend against infection
Glottis
the gaps between vocal cords
Function: allows for pronunciation/articulation
