Direct recognition

A

WBCs of donor migrate into the recipeint where they interact directl with recipeint’s T cells so they can recognise the HLA for donor cells. Occurs immediately on transplantation

Indirect Recognition

A

Foreign protein is picked up b recipient cells which is broken down by its own immune system, presented to B cells etc.
