MAIN FEEDWATER (401) Flashcards
(27 cards)
What happens to FW-V-5A/B on a Reactor Trip Confirmed?
FW-V-5A/B CLOSE, but the interlock can be overridden by pressing and holding the OPEN button until fuses are removed.
What must be done to reset FWPs if CO-V-9A/B is closed?
CO-V-9A/B must be OPEN to reset FWPs; FWPs will trip if CO-V-9A/B is closed.
What is the procedure for returning FW-V-16/17 to AUTO if they are in HAND?
Return the controlling valve to AUTO first. If both valves are controlling, return FW-V-17 to AUTO first.
What does the ICS controller display for FW-V-16/17?
The ICS controller shows the demanded position, and the LED indicates the actual position.
Up to what power level does FW-V-16 control?
FW-V-16 controls up to 25% power.
What are the electronic trip conditions for FWPs?
Counting circuit, low oil pressure (<4#), CO-V-9A/B closed, vacuum ≤20” (2 of 3), and MCR trip.
What are the mechanical trip conditions for FWPs?
Overspeed at 5775 rpm and local handle operation.
How many pressure switches does each FWP have, and what are their functions?
Each FWP has 9 pressure switches: 4 for RPS, 2 for HSPS, and 3 for Turbine/ICS.
When do the auxiliary AC motor-driven oil pump and emergency DC pump auto-start?
The auxiliary AC motor-driven oil pump auto-starts at ≤43#, and the emergency DC pump auto-starts at ≤36#.
What provides sealing steam during startup and normal operations for FWPs?
GS provides sealing steam during startup, and the turbine self-seals during normal operations.
What are the steam sources for FWPs?
Aux Steam (manual transfer at 3-7% power), Main Steam via MS-V-5A/B until extraction steam is available, and AUTO transfer at 22-24% power to extraction steam from MO-T-2D/F.
What is the function of the Motor Speed Changer (MSC) for FWPs?
MSC controls from 0–2600 rpm, and the Air Speed Changer takes over to 100%. MSC can control up to 5500 rpm using the ON switch.
What happens to control valves if stop valves are closed?
Control valves trip CLOSED if stop valves are CLOSED. Stop valves cannot be OPENED unless control valves are CLOSED.
What happens to FW-V-1A/B on FWP electrical trips?
FW-V-1A/B CLOSE and cannot be OPENED unless the FWP is reset.
What happens to FW-V-7A/B min recirc valve on loss of air or DC?
It OPENS and provides a minimum of 1000gpm recirculation through an orifice.
At what flow rate does FW-V-7A/B min recirc valve OPEN and CLOSE?
It OPENS if FW flow is <2520gpm and CLOSES if flow is >2520gpm.
What is the requirement for FW-V-12A/B RB Isolation check valves during a fault inside RB?
They must be closed within 1 hour to maintain containment integrity.
What action is required if FWP vibrations reach 5 mils?
Manually trip the pump (M-1-3). If only one pump is running, trip the reactor, follow EOP-001, and trip the FWP.
What should be done if FWP vacuum drops below 23”?
Start the standby auxiliary vacuum pump.
At what thrust bearing temperature should the FWP be evaluated for securing and tripped?
Evaluate at 170°C and trip at 190°C.
How many pressure switches does each FWP have, and what are their functions?
9 total: 4 for RPS (<75#), 2 for HSPS, and 3 for DTCS/ICS (runback to 560MWe / 68% and turbine trip).
What happens when an FWP is in standby mode?
It is NOT reset.
What occurs during chest warming with a steam leak in the IB on “A” OTSG?
CRO trips the reactor and closes MS-V-1A/B. “A” OTSG undergoes MFW isolation, EFW feeds the faulted OTSG (boils dry), and “B” OTSG loses MFW flow.
Does FW-V-92A close on an HSPS signal or a reactor trip?
It closes on an HSPS signal, not a reactor trip.
