REACTOR COOLANT PUMPS Flashcards
(11 cards)
What is the purpose of the RCP flywheel?
The flywheel adds mass to the RCP motor to increase coastdown time, ensuring adequate flow following loss of all 4 RCPs for protection from DNB.
What does the high-pressure lift oil system do for RCPs?
It reduces breakaway torque of pumps, is started before starting the RCP, and stopped after the RCP is running. AC lift oil pumps get 27/86 lockout.
What are the starting interlocks for RCPs (SCORE)?
-RSC: >407°F for 4th pump
-Seals: >22 gpm AND ICCW >550 gpm
-Cooling: NS pump 52 breaker contacts close
-Oil: Oil levels adequate
-Rx: <30% power cold water/react accident
-Electrical: Motor starting UV <6.62 kV
What are the automatic trip conditions for RCPs (SOUPS)?
- Short Circuit
- Overcurrent
- Undervoltage
- Phase Differential
- Seal Injection (<22 gpm SI and ICCW <550 gpm for 10 sec)
When should an RCP be manually tripped?
- Radial bearing temp >225°F
- CBO >260°F
- > 1700 psid on single seal
- > 20 mils pump or >4 mils motor vibration
- Loss of 25°F SCM within 1 minute
What is the critical seal differential pressure (DP) for RCPs?
Hi-2 PPC alarm at 1700 psid requires pump shutdown. CBO >260°F requires the pump to be placed in standby.
What are the cooling requirements for RCPs from Nuke Services?
- 80 gpm to motor air cooler
- 60 gpm to #1 upper oil cooler
- 60 gpm to #2 upper oil cooler
- 8 gpm to lower oil cooler
What are the power sources for RCP feeder and motor breakers?
- 6.9 kV Feeder Breakers = E DC
- RCP Motor Breakers = F (B) DC
What happens to RCPs on loss of ICS AUTO power?
SI/ICCW trip and starting interlock for RCPs become inoperable.
What is the seal CBO flow rate for RCPs during normal operation and SBO?
2.5 gpm per pump during normal operation and 1 gpm per RCP during SBO when abeyance seal actuates.
What happens to the AC oil lift pump on an RCP trip?
The AC oil lift pump will start, and the loop with the 2 pumps still running will increase slightly.
