RADIATION MONITORS Flashcards
(34 cards)
What is the Tech Spec requirement for RCS leak detection when the reactor is critical and >2% power?
2 diverse RCS leak detection methods, including 1 sensitive to radiation, must be OPERABLE. If RM-A-2 is OOS, restore in 72 hours and sample every 8 hours.
What actions are required if RM-A-9 is INOPERABLE?
Discontinue RB purge and CLOSE AH-V-1A/B/C/D within 8 hours. If purge valves can’t be CLOSED, Tech Spec 3.0.1 applies.
What is the testing requirement for RB purge isolation valves and RM-A-9 when moving fuel in the RB?
They must be tested OPERABLE within 7 days of moving fuel in the RB.
Is the alarm pushbutton an accurate way to verify setpoints?
No, verify high alarm/alert setpoints by contacting I&C.
What happens on a high RM-L-1 alarm?
MU-V-2A/B CLOSE, personnel in RCA are sent to RP checkpoint IAW C-1-1, and isolation occurs on HIGH alarm, not Low Scale. Letdown transport time is 30-60 minutes.
What actions are required if RM-L-9 (ICCW) is rising and IC-T-1 level can’t be maintained on scale?
Trip the reactor, trip all 4 RCPs, CLOSE IC-V-2/3, and initiate AOP-050 RCS Leakage.
What does RM-L-12 monitor, and what happens on a high alarm?
IWTS/FS effluent local indication ONLY; AUTO CLOSES IW-V-73 release valve on high alarm.
Which radiation monitor is credited in the ODCM for terminating liquid rad releases?
RM-L-6 (near WECST).
What happens if RM-A-5/15 has 1 OPERABLE channel NOT restored within 14 days?
Tech Spec 3.0.1 applies.
What interlocks come from the GAS channel high alarm?
“A pig only squeals when she has GAS.”
What is the sensitivity of RM-A-2 for RCS leakage detection?
RM-A-2 is sensitive to <1 gpm of RCS leakage and can detect within 1 hour to meet Tech Spec requirements.
What actions are required when working on RM-A-2?
Shut down the pump and isolate CM-V-1/4 to prevent violating containment integrity.
Does RM-A-2 require 8-hour sampling when out of service at HSD?
No, Tech Spec 3.1.6.8 is only required >2% power.
What happens if RM-A-4 and RM-A-9 are in high alarm during fuel handling?
Trip AH-E-14s.
What happens on a high RM-A-6 alarm?
Trips AH-E-11 (supply) to ensure negative pressure and avoid unmonitored release.
What happens if RM-A-9 alarms during fuel movement?
Suspend fuel handling and evacuate personnel in RB, but do NOT terminate purge.
What is the function of RM-A-14?
Pulls ESF slip stream using a 1C ESV sample pump.
What happens if RM-A-7 is INOP during a gas release?
Continue the release if RM-A-8, AH-FT-149, and FT-150 are OPERABLE and capable of WDG-V-47 auto closure.
What happens on a high RM-A-8 alarm?
Trips AH-E-10 and 11 and CLOSES WDG-V-47.
What happens after 30 seconds of a gamma area monitor local alarm?
The horn resets, and the red beacon light starts and runs continuously.
What happens if RM-G-7 fails LOW?
Terminate RB fuel moves until replaced with a portable instrument.
What happens if RM-G-9 fails HIGH?
Terminate FHB fuel moves until replaced with a portable instrument. Trips AH-E-10 and isolates FHB dampers on high alarm.
What happens on a high RM-G-16/17 alarm?
CLOSE CA-V-4/5 A/B.
What happens on a high RM-G-18 alarm?
CLOSE CA-V-1, 2, 3, 13.
