VCJH Science 7 Chpt 4 review Flashcards
(23 cards)
What are the two organ systems of plants?
Roots and shoots
shoot system - stalk or trunk and leaves
Root system - roots
Name the four levels of cellular organization (in order)
Cell - Tissue - Organ - Organ system
Organelle - cell - tissue - organ - organ system - organism (multicellular)
Does structure determine function or does
Function determine structure?
structure determines function
What advantages does a unicellular organism have?
What characteristics does a multicellular organism have?
unicellular organism is simpler and not dependent on specialized organs or organ systems.
multicellular organisms are larger and live longer.
Give examples of unicellular organisms
Give examples of multicellular organisms
Unicellular - bacteria,
multicellular - plants, animals,
List two characteristics of Eukaryotic cells
They have a nucleus
Membrane bound organelles
List the five organelles found in animal cells
Ribosomes - ERIC (Endoplasmic Reticulum) - Golgi Complex - Lysosomes. - Mitochondria
List the eight organelles found in plant cells
Ribosomes - ER (Endoplasmic Reticulum) - Golgi Complex
Vacuole -Chloroplast
Cell membrane - Cell wall. - Nucleus.
What is a cell?
Basic building block of all organisms
Why are cells small?
To. Be efficient
List the three parts of the cell theory
- All living things made of cells
- Basic unit of things
- cells come from other cells
What four parts do all cells have in common?
Cell membrane - Cytoplasm - Organelles - DNA
What are the two types of cells?
Prokaryote & Eukryote
What is the difference between a Prokaryote and Eukaryote?
Prokaryote - simple cell, NO NUCLEUS
Eukaryote - has a nucleus
How do plant and animal cells differ?
Plant cells have Chloroplast and Vacuoles.
Define organism
Any living thing that can carry outline processes by itself. Can be either unicellular or multicellular
Define specialization
.performing specific functions based on structure to support the organism.
Define tissue
Group of similar cells with similar function
Define organ
Collection of tissues with a specialized function.
Define organ system
.group of organs that work together to perform body functions.
Explain the relationship between structure and function
Structure determines function
Describe how various organs and tissues serve the needs of cells for nutrients, oxygen and waste removal
Digestive system - stomach. - brings food and nutrients into the body
Respiratory system - lungs. - brings oxygen into the body
Circulatory system - heart. - carries nutrients and oxygen to all organs and cells in the body. Returns waste products.
Excretory system - bladder - eliminates waste products from the body
What are the three types of plant tissues?
Transport, protective, and ground
Transport - moves water and nutrients through a plant
Protective - protects outside of plant. ie Bark, leaf, etc
Ground - internal support and storage and absorbs light.
