Q

As a knowledgable co. officer you know that the spread of fire to exposures 2 & 4 is great. You are also aware that if there is an addtl. bldg. in the rear you know that it is 10-25’ or more away & usually is not an exposure problem. Further you know that many OLTS have been convertd to SRO’s & have sprinkler systems. But do you know if thy can be supplied by FD pumpers?

A

No. You cannot supply the sprinklers.

Q

What are the 3 concerns about structural steel in “H” types?

A

When heated it expands & elongates causing walls to bulge move or collapse if the steel is w/in a wall.
when heated to higher temps floor beams supported by such heated steel will fall to floor below.
steel columns or girders may extend from 1st floor up to cockloft creating a path for fire to travel 5.1.1 C

It is essential that once the stair layout is recognized, this info be relayed by H.T.This is vital in the size-up picture. What are the 3 types of stairs?

A

Transverse- located remote from each other but a person can go (transverse) from 1 stair to the other via public hall. They are a huge asset on the top floor for heavy fire.
