3.
4.
A
  1. stretch hoselines to protect entire collapse area. Ensure a 3 1/2” line is stretched for tower ladder use
  2. control utilities by shutting down the main building service entrance controls, and ensure the dispatcher has requested response of utility company’s emergency crews.
  3. remove lightly buried victims and deliver to medical group. CFR-D engines CAN assist ems

Q

How should first alarm engine companies position themselves?

A

To protect the occupants and rescuers against the threat of fire.(5.3) If possible, both 1st and 2nd engines should take seperate ehydrants outside the block, each on seperate mains, and prepare to supply handlines and a large caliber tower ladder stream. Q

In order of highest to least priority, first alarm engine companies are to:(notes not a question)

A
  • extinguish active fire
  • protect exposures
  • extinguish burning buildings within vicinity of collapse
  • no active fire then stretch and charge a 2 1/2 precautionary line to cover entire operation. in addition stretch a 3 1/2 inch line to supply 1st TL on scene.
  • at suspected terrorist event, 2 1/2 inch lines should be located between two apparatus, or other substantial shielding, to protect personnel from secondary blast.(7.1.1)

A

2 1/2 inch line with sufficient length to cover entire site.(7.2.1)

21
Q

What is responsibility of 1st arriving engine officer?

25
Q

Duties of third and subsequent arriving engines?

A
  • under direction of IC, third and any subsequent arriving engines will be utilized to perform the following:
    • fire control
    • stretching add. hand lines
    • augmenting the water supply to first alarm units
    • perform CFR-D duties
    • assist in removal of lightly buried victims
      (7. 4)
26
Q

duty of first arriving ladder officer?

A

*obtain briefing from IC
*supervise app. placement
NOTE: officers have option of splitting company into separate teams(7.5.1)

27
Q

Duties of first ladder to arrive members?

A

RECONNAISSANCE

  • scene survey
  • hazard assessment and control
  • remove surface victims
  • perform preliminary void search
  • victims brought /directed to a casualty collection point(CCP) (7.5.2)
28
Q

what should the second to arrive ladder company do upon arrival?

A

immediately begin the process of controlling the gas, electric, and water services.(7.6)

29
Q

duties of second to arrive ladder officer?

A
  • obtain briefing from IC
  • supervise app. placement
  • ENSURE dispatcher notified the utility company emergency crews(7.6.1)
30
Q

duties of 2nd to arrive ladder company members?

A

UTILITIES

  • assist with life safety if necessary
  • major priority is controlling gas, electric, and water services(7.6.2)
31
Q

duties of third and subsequent arriving ladder companies?

A
  • search additional line of site void spaces or exposures
  • assist with control of the utilities if needed
  • perform debris removal as directed
  • cut timbers for shoring as directed
  • assist with victim removal
    (7. 7)
32
Q

Tower ladders can be used to:(note not a question)

A
  • provide large caliber stream to protect victims and rescuers from fire
  • aid in rescuing victims
  • transport heavy tools
  • allow rescuers to traverse unstable debris, survey the collapse, access remote areas and act as a work platform for shoring, breaching, etc.
  • provide close-up observation and monitoring of the remaining structure for signs of secondary collapse.(7.8.2)
33
Q

What is the signal for a major emergency response?

A

10-60

8.1

34
Q

what is the full response when 10-60 is transmitted?(who is on the ticket)

A

LMFAO……….don’t need to know that

35
Q

why is the search assessment marking system used?

A

To denote information about the search of a premise or area relating to victim location and status(add 2,1.1)

36
Q

When are the markings used?

A

when searching large MD’s, large areas of buildings, or large debris piles at collapse sites(add 2, 1.2)

37
Q

What do the markings do?

A
  • they define hazards and hazardous conditions in the building and/or areas searched for info of later arriving personnel
  • indicate a search is in progress or has been completed. this avoids duplication of searches(add 2, 1.3&1.4)
38
Q
  1. how big are the markings for the search assessment marking system and what does it look like?
  2. How are these marks made?
A
  1. They consist of 2” x 2” markings that when completed will form the letter X with designated makings in each quadrant (add 2, 2.1)
  2. With the same lime-yellow colored reflective spray paint used to mark vacant buildings(add 2 (2.2)
39
Q

How many cans of lime-yellow colored reflective spray paint are to be carried on ALL apparatus?

A

two (add 2, 2.3)

40
Q
  1. How is the “x” constructed when using search assessment marking system?
  2. where are these markings made?
A
  1. One slash drawn upon entry into structure, room, or hallway inside the structure. a second slash is made upon exiting that area.(add 2 3.1)
  2. at the point the unit/team makes entry
41
Q

When making your first slash upon entry what other info needs to be marked?

A

unit identity(add 2, 4.1) in left quadrant

42
Q

The “x” that is formed when marking areas provides 4 quadrants. what info goes in each one?

A

left=company/team designation given at command post

top= time and date company LEFT structure

right= personal hazards to units/teams

bottom= number of live and/or expired victims still inside structure/area. “0” = no victims

43
Q

what must be done when searches are completed?

A

results of all searches shall be relayed to the command post or officer in charge of that sector/area when search is completed.(add2, 4 notes)

44
Q
  1. You come across a large “V” approximately 2, in height during searches. What does this mean?
  2. What if there was an arrow painted next to the “V”?
  3. If the “V” has a circle around it what does this tell you?
  4. What does a horizontal line through the middle of the “V” mean?
A
  1. A large “V” is indicates a location of a nearby known or potential victim.
  2. An arrow points toward the victims location.
  3. The circle around the “V” means the location of a potential victim has been confirmed either visually, vocally or by hearing sounds that would indicate a high probability of a victim.
  4. victim is confirmed deceased(add 2, 5)
45
Q

You come across the “V” symbol with a circle around it and a vertical line painted through it. what does this tell you?

A

the confirmed victim has been removed from specific location identified by the marking. This marking should NOT be taken to mean the secondary search is complete, rather it means that all victims that have previously been located have been removed. Given that these markings will be used on piles of debris in a heavily collapsed structure, a secondary search of that area will not be complete until all debris in the area is removed and examined. Continuous examination of the debris will be required as further demolition progresses.(add 2, 5.5)
