Bio- Circulation Flashcards
(21 cards)
Open System
No distinction between blood and interstitial fluid
Gap juncture
How nerves send messages/ impulses
Closed system
Blood is confined to blood vessels and is speedster from interstitial fluid
Interstitial fluid
Fluid found between cells
Ibn al- Nafis
First to describe human and pulmonary circulation
Septum
Divides left and right side of the heart
Systematic circulation
Goes to the head
Arteries
- Six layers thick
- has no valves
Arterioles
- small artery
- transports oxygenated blood away from the heart
Vein
- four layers thick
- transports blood TO the heart
- contains valves to prevent the backflips of blood
Venules
Small vein
Capillary
- one cell layer thick
- exchange oxygen, carbon dioxide, and nutrients with tissues
Direction of Blood Flow
Artery Arterioles Capillary Venule Vein
Pulmonary circulation
Circulation of blood to the lungs
Coronary Circulation
Circulation of blood through the heart
Hepatic circulation
Circulation of blood to the liver, stomach, and small intestine
Renal Circulation
Circulation of blood through the kidneys, filters blood
SinoAtrial Node (SA Node)
- pacemaker
- determines pace of the heart
- initiates and generates electrical impulses in order for the heart contraction to occur
Atrioventricular Node (AV Node)
Conducts the normal impulse from the atria to the ventricles
Bundle of HIS (AV Bundle)
Transmits the electrical impulses from the AV node
Node
A cluster of nerves that give off electrical impulses
