Q
Cytokinesis
A
A process in which the cytoplasm is divided about equally between the two daughter cells
1
Q
Mitosis
A
- The process of nuclear division that preserves the DIPLOID number of chromosomes
- number of chromosomes stays the same
- creates 2 diploid cells
2
Q
Early Prophase
A
- chromosomes condense and coil up (shorten)
- spindle microtubules begin to form between separating centriole pairs
3
Q
Late prophase
A
- nucleus disappears
- nuclear envelope breaks down
- spindle microtubules attach to the kinetochore of each sister chromatid
4
Q
Metaphase
A
- spindle fibers running to opposite poles each pull towards its own pole
- each chromosome line up at the cell’s equator
- phase ends when all the chromosomes have lined up along the equator with one kinetochore facing each pole
5
Q
Anaphase
A
- sister chromatid separate and move to opposite pole of the cell
- spindle microtubules push poles apart
6
Q
Telephase
A
- spindle fiber disintegrate
- nuclear envelope form around chromosomes
- chromosomes revert to their extended state
- nucleoli reappears
7
Q
Plant Cells
A
- Carbohydrate filled vesicles bud off the Golgi complex and move to the equator of the cell
- Vesicles fuse to form a new cell wall and plasma membrane between daughter cells
- Complete separation of daughter cells
