6th - Science - Microscope Flashcards
(19 cards)
Ocular
- You look for this to view the specimen
- you can magnify the specimen by 10
Function
The function is to magnify an object or off for viewing
The course adjustment knob
The objective lenses large distances
General focusing
The fine adjustment knob
The objective lenses small distances
The arm
So the point is attachment for the body, stones, and base also serves as a handle
Stage clips
If you want to slide on the stage
The base
To support the weight of the microscope
The body tube
To refresh of been like super series of lenses
The revolving nose piece
- Point of attachment with the objective lenses
- allows you to rotate and change the objectives
The objectives
To allow you to magnify the specimen at different levels
The stage
- Support the slide
- allows light to penetrate the specimen
Iris diaphragm
Controls the amount of light that penetrates the spencemin
Illuminator
To provide light
Total magnification
-This is the subtle number of times and object is magnified when viewed through the microscope
How is total magnification calculated
calculated by multiplying the level of magnification for the ocular by the total level of magnification for the chosen objective
Field of view
- The area that you see when you look into the microscope
- depending on which objective you use, this will be large or small.
Explain how our relate to what you can see in the field of view
-The lower the power on the objective, the more area on the slide you can see. The larger the power, the less area uses, but in greater detail
Depth of focus
- This is where in the 3-D you are focused
- The microscope will focus on different levels on the specimen: top, middle, and bottom layers
Working distance
- The amount of space between the bottom of the objective lens and the top of the slide.
- This decreases as the objective power increases
